I don't want to speak too soon, but we may very well be on the cusp of a new golden age of Christmas-themed horror movies. Just in the last couple of years, we've had the Christmas set Terrorist 3; Y2Kwhich focuses on a very specific New Year; and Eli Roth's surprisingly funny and, unsurprisingly, gory film. Thanksgiving – and that's not to mention all the horror movies set on Halloween, which seem too easy to count. The latest inclusion is (hopefully) heart eyesa new Valentine's Day slasher, which received a new trailer on Tuesday.
heart eyes is about a serial killer who wears a mask with LED hearts for eyes and murders couples every Valentine's Day. The trailer doesn't offer many story details, but it seems likely that this is a movie in which the premise speaks for itself: a couple (Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding) will be hunted by the titular killer, and a lot of people they are doing it. They're going to kill us, and that's probably all we really need to know.
Adding to the hope that this film can be better than just a Christmas stunt is the exciting creative team behind it. heart eyes is written and produced by Christopher Landon, the writer and director of the Happy Death Day films, and directed by Josh Ruben, who previously directed Werewolves insideand is a frequent guest star on Dropout series such as make some noise.
heart eyes will hit theaters on February 7.
