It's not exactly Marty McFly's Back to the Future declaration that “your kids are going to love it,” but it's fair to say that some Star Trek properties take a little longer to warm up to their passionate fanbase than others.
It's a thought that's clearly running through Section 31 actor Robert Kazinsky's mind before the Star Trek movie boldly ventures into new territory: as a spy thriller starring Michelle Yeoh.
“I'm terrified of how it will be received, because it's not what the Trek people want,” Kazinsky, who plays Zeph, says in the new issue of SFX magazinewhich features the Star Trek spinoff film Section 31 on the cover and hits newsstands December 31.
“The Trek that people want, the Trek that we all want, is just 1,000 more episodes of [The Next Generation]. “Everyone is always mad because they don't get more TNG, while at the same time, when TNG came out, everyone hated it,” explains Kazinsky, pointing to the series Trek, starring Patrick Stewart, whose fearsome reputation has only grown. that grow over the years.
“So this is going to happen and it won't feel like any Trek they've ever seen. My fear was that it wouldn't feel like Trek at all. So for you to tell me that it still feels like Trek while being a completely different flavor of Trek, That cheers me up. In 10 years, we'll look back and love every one of these Treks.”
In section 31, Michelle Yeoh reprises her Star Trek: Discovery role as former Emperor Georgiou, who jumped from the Mirror Universe to the main timeline. After initially up to no good, Yeoh's Georgiou eventually lands with Section 31, a group of covert Starfleet members working to protect the Federation.
