Ark: Survival Evolved has been around for almost a decade, and a new free mobile game shows that people are still interested in the series, as it garnered over a million downloads in just 24 hours.
As reported by PCGamesNThe mobile game is already incredibly popular. It contains the original island map as well as five expansion packs, and you can still tame and ride dinosaurs into battle and play with and against others in the game's multiplayer mode.
As a free-to-play game, it offers in-app purchases, such as a subscription that gives you monthly bonuses or the purchase of all current and future expansion packs that will be added to the game until 2025.
As with many mobile games, reviews are very mixed. One one-star review says: “The interface is absolutely terrible. I have to press things multiple times, it doesn't respond.” […] “They also removed the classic HUD and movement and replaced it with the most unintuitive mobile controls I've ever seen, they don't even make sense.”
The author of a three-star review enjoys the game the most, but notes that “even on the lowest level [graphics settings] My phone is very hot after 10/15 minutes of playing, so be careful if you want to play for a long time.
A five-star review says: “This isn't just a port; it's a full-fledged survival experience that rivals its console and PC counterparts.” He also notes that there are some lag issues and that a controller is the best way to play.
I visited my older cousin at his residence today and watched Jurassic Park 3 on TV, which really made me want to get into some dinosaur action, so I downloaded Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition to give it a quick try, but it's a chunky game. The initial download on my Android was over 1GB and as I write this I'm waiting for an update of over 3.5GB.
However, there is a fun little mini-game called Download Dodo to play while you wait. It's a lot like the little pixel game you see in Chrome browsers when the internet is down, only you have to cut down trees to find berries for the dodo and kill Komodo dragons and use their meat to distract larger predators.
