With its recent console port, WitchSpring R has now earned over $5 million in sales, making it a huge triumph for the wholesome and clever RPG series that's been chugging along in the background for nearly a decade.
WitchSpring began life as a series of mobile games, typically placing players in the shoes of a potion-making chibi and offering a mix of crafting, cooking, harvesting, and turn-based combat. It has steadily gained a following since its debut in 2013, paving the way for its biggest success yet with the latest game in the long-running series.
WitchSpring R hit Steam shelves last year, where it earned “overwhelmingly positive” user reviews thanks to its commitment to uncomplicated fun. But after its release on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch last month, developer Kiwiwalks announced it had “surpassed $5 million in global sales.”
“This marks the shortest period and the highest sales in the history of the WitchSpring series,” the developer's recent blog post states. “The game has also received excellent reviews from international media, with scores of 82 on OpenCritic and 83 on MetaCritic.”
“We plan to release new costume DLC in October as a Steam update,” he continued. “We are also preparing for the release of the Xbox version. Development of the game is complete, but there are still some discussions to be had with the platform to finalize the release and we are working hard to resolve these issues.”
Next year marks the 10th anniversary of WitchSpring, but it doesn't look like the long-delayed series has any plans to slow down now that it's reaching even greater heights.
