Jared Harris has answered why he agreed to be in Sony's failed Spider-Man Universe morbiumand your answer is perfect.
“I have a mortgage to pay, you know? Sometimes you say yes to things because you need to make money,” Harris said in an interview with INews, reportedly shrugging his shoulders as he responded. The star played Morbius' mentor and father figure in the 2022 film.
The film, based on the Marvel comic book superhero of the same name, follows Dr. Michael Morbius, who conducts a drastic experiment on himself after suffering from an illness that has plagued him his entire life. But things go wrong and Morbius (Jared Leto) and his brother (Matt Smith) become vampires. Although Harris' character does not become a bloodsucker, he does run the facility where Morbius conducts the experiment.
However, the film debuted to disappointing reviews and has since, like Madame Web, become something of a parody of the genre. Let's say it's not in our best superhero movies from the all-time list. To this day, Morbius has a pretty terrible 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes and is often the subject of many internet memes.
Harris doesn't really have a problem with that; in fact, I wish it leaned a little more toward comedy. “I've found that those kinds of movies work well if you have a sense of humor,” Harris said. “You can't treat it like it's Shakespeare. So yeah, that movie could use a naughtier sense of humor.”
In addition to Harris, House of the Dragon's Smith, and Suicide Squad's Leto, the film also stars Adria Arjona, Michael Keaton, and Tyrese Gibson.
