The embargo has been lifted and the first verdicts on Dragon Age: The Veilguard are starting to come in from all over the Internet. One of those early verdicts comes from Baldur's Gate 3 editorial director Michael 'Cromwelp' Douse, who finds BioWare's latest well worth a look for RPG fans.
“I've been playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard in complete secret (behind my backpack in the office, in front of a giant window, in the kitchen),” Douse says on Twitter. “For my part, you may be wondering, 'Is this a game compatible with my experience during BG3?', so I'll approach it from that perspective. The answer is yes. It's for a 9-season heavy show that so well fact. , binge-worthy, character-driven Netflix series.”
Douse describes The Veilguard as a “giga-brain genius” combination of Xenoblade Chronicles and Hogwarts Legacy, noting that it “feels like the first Dragon Age game that really knows what it wants to be.” For people who “want to play characters with a strong combat system in a universe they know, love, or have heard of, it's much better than the average action game, and much less heavy than the giant RPGs that “Sometimes they can be intimidating.” . In a word, it's fun!”
The original Dragon Age launched as the successor to BioWare's Baldur's Gate, and hearing The Veilguard praised so thoroughly by one of the people who helped bring BG3 to life feels like a coming full circle moment. “For me, I'm very happy that BioWare can remain – presumably – in these uncertain times (due to stupid corporate greed),” Douse concludes. “An existential game and, at the same time, fun.”
