The Day Before developer Fntastic has called it a day on Kickstarter, hoping to secure funding for Escape Factory, a physics-based multiplayer cooperative escape game.
But don't think that the developer is really going to call it a day. Rather, in announcing the end of one game, it also announced the beginning of another: an “action-horror props hunt” game called Items.
Yeah, in that same post where Fntastic admitted that there's just not enough interest in their Factory game, they said that the community has been asking for a props scavenger hunt game, so that's what they're going to do now.
Fntastic added that the development of Items “will require significant resources” and therefore the team has “decided to release mobile games in parallel to support the process.” He also suggested that another Kickstarter could be in play later, stating that it is “important to us that our players have the opportunity to play and test the game before” its release.
Responding to an unconvinced social media follower who mocked the developer's continued attempt to regain some favor, Fntastic said: “We know that our decisions and projects may not be for everyone, but we are working hard to create a game that Our fans will like it and enjoy it.”

It's fair to say that Fntastic doesn't have a good track record when it comes to releasing games. It finally released The Day Before in December of last year, after a rocky road to release that included delays, the developer being forced to declare that its game was not a scam, and criticism for its use of unpaid volunteers. It even became embroiled in a strange trademark dispute with a calendar app also called The Day Before.
However, in the end, The Day Before didn't last long. Its debut was a disaster and the studio closed just days after the game's release, with players receiving refunds for the product. Fantastic announced its 'return' last month, with an attempt to refresh itself with a 'Fntastic 2.0' push.
