Tails of Iron 2: Winter review mustaches
One of the pleasures of the games is to play a sequel that is the same or better than the previous game. It does not happen often. For Soulkes fans, finding a genuinely original version of the FROMSOFT formula is equally rare. With the launch of Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter, many players have reasons to celebrate. The itera sequel in the mechanics of the first game intelligently and expands its emotional and narrative range.
Rodent Heroes Tales
Odd Bug Studios's Iron Iron game told Redgi's story. It is a young rat that inherits her father's crown and goes to defeat the frogs that killed her father and invaded the kingdom. Of course, this is not a documentary of nature, but a story set in a fantasy world similar to a book of anthropomorphic animals stories.
The premise of history for winter mustaches is not very different. The hero this time is the young Arlo, who becomes the guardian after his father is killed by the dark clan, a tribe of threatening bats. Some of the boss -type dark clan monsters are like dragons and have almost destroyed Arlo's house. Arlo's task is to rebuild defeating the dark clan and collecting allies around the extensive and diverse kingdom. And, of course, vain his father's death.
In the first chapter of Prologue, the player meets Arlo and his father, the basic mechanics of all action role -playing games fall and learn and learn and learn. The couple returns home to find him under Siege and Arlo observes his father is killed in the battle. UPS. Spoiler alert.
Dark rodent fantasy
This is a good place to mention that, like iron tails, winter mustaches use a beautifully dark and hand -drawn 2D style. It is vaguely reminiscent of medieval illustration and for the sequel, there are even more details in the images. It is the world apart from the art of pixels so often a characteristic of Metroidvanias and Soulkes 2D. Crectures and monsters designs are smart shots of family animals. Like art design, animations have a very specific style. Playing it feels like turning an emerging or emerging book.
In addition to the outstanding narrative voice provided by veteran actor Doug Cockle, there is no voice performance. The script is flowery, intelligent and definitely on the dark side. Death and loss are prominent issues. The atmosphere is enriched with the excellent music of the game. However, the environmental audio and combat effects are a bit moderate.
Fight Part 2
In most senses, combat mechanics is a refinement and improvement on iron tails. Recent Soulikes and Metroidvanias players will recognize the basic elements: heavy and light attacks, a more important stop, Dodge Rolls and a variety of melee weapons already distance. For the sequel, Whiskers of Winter adds elementary weapons and traps infused with magic and a new grip hook mechanics.
Most of the games that use a grip hook have levels of puzzles or out of reach, but although the mechanic is not annoying to use, it feels a bit superfluous to the generally linear level design. There is also a bit of inconsistency when hook connection points are activated. On the other hand, ignoring the obvious places where the hook is generally required in damage to the fall. Elementary magical infusions and traps are fun to use and can be quite effective against larger enemies. In addition to these additions, exploration mechanics, resources resources, elaboration and updates are comfortably familiar. A contentious mechanic of stone stones has been eliminated. Whettone remains but has a different function and does not prevent combat.
Good improves the second time
In a flood of Soulkes and 2D Metroidvanias, the iron tails of 2021 stood out, thanks to their beautiful art, excellent combat and an attractive premise. All that is true for winter mustaches. The sequel is so visually distinctive and narratively interesting. The game fight can be extremely challenging, but this time there are options to make difficulty, which makes the game a little more accessible to Arpg less hardcore fans. Tails of Iron 2: Whispers of Winter does not radically reinvent the art or focus of the first game, but it definitely improves it and deepens it. Anyone who feels fatigued with the art of imitation imitation pixels should try winter mustaches.
