As the gaming world waits for Nintendo to finally reveal the Switch 2, rumors continue to circulate. And a reliable leaker has now claimed that Microsoft will be a “big supporter” of the console, bringing two major Xbox series to Switch 2 this year, including Halo.
This is according to podcaster NateTheHate (thanks VGC), who broke the news that Microsoft was planning to make some of its first-party titles cross-platform early last year. That, of course, turned out to be true; Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded and Pentiment are now available on PS5, with the latter two also on Switch.
NateTheHate now reports that Microsoft's cross-platform strategy will expand to Switch 2, and that the company will be “very supportive,” releasing two Xbox titles on the platform – Flight Simulator and Halo: The Masterchief Collection – in 2025. He also claims that They both will. release for PS5, joining Xbox's other first-party games, namely Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Doom: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2, already confirmed for Sony's machine.
NateTheHate adds that Microsoft will also “port and patch” [its] current Switch lineup” for Switch 2, introducing 4K support, and that “I wouldn't be surprised if Sea of Thieves, perhaps Hi-fi Rush, also found their way.” Last year, Hi-Fi Rush was stated would skip the current Switch version in favor of Switch 2, although that was before Microsoft's closure of developer Tango Gameworks and its subsequent purchase by Krafton.
As for other non-Microsoft Switch 2 releases, NateTheHate says Square Enix will bring Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth to the Nintendo machine, as well as the Xbox Series X/S, with Remake reportedly coming this year and Rebirth in 2026. That's not especially surprising. It's hard to hear, of course, given that Square Enix confirmed last year that it was “aggressively pursuing” a new cross-platform strategy amid reports that Rebirth underperformed on PlayStation 5.
Obviously, before all of this can happen, Nintendo needs to formally unveil the Switch 2, although by the time it finally does, there may not be much left that we don't already know. Numerous reports and leaks have emerged about the Switch 2 in recent weeks, purportedly showing everything from the machine's form factor to its logo. And while Nintendo briefly broke its silence today amid the avalanche of reports, all we know for sure is that the Switch 2 will be officially unveiled before March 31, when the company's current financial year ends.
