Cloud Imperium has revealed expanded gameplay for its upcoming Star Citizen spin-off, Squadron 42, releasing in 2026.
During this weekend's CitizenCon 2954, thousands of fans descended on Manchester, UK, to find out what lies ahead in the medium to long-term future of CI space sim Star Citizen. And as part of that showcase, fans were treated to a star-studded Squad 42 gameplay trailer.
Below is a one-hour sample of what to expect:
“Last year we announced that 42 Squadron was fully operational, so what has the team been up to since then?” CEO Chris Roberts said.
“Given the scale and ambition of Squadron, our teams have focused on polishing and optimizing to ensure the game meets all of the high standards that I have, the team has, and you the boys have.”
Roberts also revealed that the story will take “between 30 and 40 hours” to complete, and confirmed that he was “confident” it would premiere sometime in 2026.
Squadron 42 features an all-star cast including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, Liam Cunningham, Andy Serkis, Mark Strong, Ben Mendelson and Sophie Wu, among others.
The single-player, story-driven Squadron 42 was announced back in 2014, but has been delayed several times.
