The Sonic film franchise has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, following the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 before Christmas.
The latter film grossed more than $187 million in the United States, for a worldwide total of $336.3 million. It debuted worldwide with $211.5 million in its first week.
The previous two films collectively grossed $725.2 million worldwide, following their releases in 2020 and 2022 respectively. In addition, they generated $181 million in consumer spending on renting and purchasing homes, while the Knuckles TV spin-off on Paramount+ was the number one children's and family series on the platform with 11 million hours watched worldwide in its first 28 days of transmission.
So Sonic 3 has certainly been a success, earning the best critical ratings of the franchise, helped by the inclusion of Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog.

A fourth film has already been confirmed, and the third film's post-credits scene reveals who will star, leading to theories about its possible plot.
