Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 3…
It seems to be a tradition now for the character teased in the post-credits scene of a Sonic the Hedgehog movie to appear in the next movie. The first installment teased the arrival of Tails, while the second set up Shadow's appearance.
Therefore, all eyes were on Sonic 3's post-credits scenes, which certainly included some exciting cameos. Saving our beloved blue blob from an army of Metal Sonics was none other than Amy Rose, and fans immediately recognized the character thanks to her pink hair and hammer.
Of course, it's just a brief teaser, but fans are already excited to see more of her in the recently announced Sonic 4. However, as Sonic 3 writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller recently revealed to GamesRadar+, Amy Rose almost played a role in the third film, rather than simply appearing in the post-credits scene.
But as Casey adds, they ultimately decided against that plan for fear of overcrowding the film: “We talked at length about including it in movie three, before we all ultimately decided there just wasn't enough room to do it justice and justice.” the Shadow. We didn't want to clutter the image.
Instead, they're now looking to the future, with Casey quipping, “I think we have a great plan for what will really make her work as a movie character.”
Naturally, the duo don't want to say much more, keeping their cards close to their chest, but Miller adds that they want to make sure Amy Rose is fully developed: “You don't want her to be there as a fourth Wall running around with the trio. We just want to see her.” be cool. She's kind of a great female character in the franchise.”
Amy Rose was in fact the first female character introduced in the Sonic games, but the writers want to emphasize that in their movies they don't want her to just be 'Sonic girl', especially since many have been waiting for this moment for a long time.
Casey jokes that she's definitely been feeling the pressure from a family member: “There has to be something more to her than just being the girl. But we wanted to include her in there. My little niece has been bothering me about it.” . “I was saying she'll get here eventually, I promise.”
Interestingly, Amy Rose's appearance seems to provide more evidence that a strange and ongoing fan theory is correct. You may remember that we reported on the jumper theory, which says that whatever color Tika Sumpter's Maddie wears on the poster sets up the character that will be revealed in the post-credits scene. For example, yellow for Tails, red and black for Shadow.
Well, for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sumpter wore a pink sweater in the marketing, and Amy Rose is, in fact, a pink character!
Laughing as GamesRadar+ asks about the theory, Miller says they're aware of it and think it's time they asked producer Toby Ascher about it: “We've seen it and it's weird because that's outside of the movie part in those we have worked on”. “I don't think we've ever asked Toby, but we should…maybe it was intentional in this case, but I think it was probably an accident originally.”
Casey agrees, jokingly adding, “I could [be] intentional, but also maybe not…”
