A year after its monumental launch, impressive turn-based role-playing game sea of stars is set to receive a huge free update that includes everything from three-player local co-op to a speedrunner relic.
Dawn of Equinox arrives on November 12 of this year and adds countless fan-requested features to Sea of Stars before The agony of the watchmaker in 2025. The most exciting thing is that up to three players will be able to play the entire story of the game thanks to a new sofa coop mode. However, that's not all that awaits fans looking to enjoy the role-playing game with friends: the addition of cooperative mode also marks the Co-op Timed Hits combat mechanic.
Combat as a whole is also changing: Mystery Locks brings a gameplay loop that allows players to reveal how enemies' spells can be broken in each new encounter. In addition to “Reveal” abilities that attach to certain characters' special abilities, combo points will remain even after the battle ends. Developer Sabotage Studio is also reworking the game's balance to address previous feedback and upcoming combat-related changes.
Players can now also choose from new difficulty presets when starting a new game, using relics. Several relics are coming with Dawn of Equinox, with difficulty and quality of life related relics on the go, as well as a single, speedrunner-specific one with useful features for fans interested in achieving a personal best or a impressive world record. While I'm not a speedrunner, it's refreshing to see the developers taking so seriously what would be useful to fans.
There's even more content coming with Dawn of Equinox, too: from a revamped prologue to a new cutscene called “Paths on Water,” the update has enough to tide fans over until the spring release of Throes of the Watchmaker. Sea of Stars has already proven to be a gem of the genre, since its triumph in the Best Indie Game Category at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023 to its dedicated community that housed More than four million players in less than four months..
