Weezer and Fortnite join forces
Today, Look North World, a game studio founded by Alexander Seropian, who helped create Bungie and worked at Disney, announced an exciting partnership with the band Weezer. They are launching a special event in the new open-world crime simulator, Sweat(er) City, from October 11 to November 11, 2024.
This event celebrates Weezer's North American tour and the 30th anniversary of their famous Blue Album. Players can enjoy new in-game experiences inspired by the band, including a guitar weapon that plays the catchy “Buddy Holly” riff when an enemy is defeated. There's also an Arnold drive-in recreated from one of Weezer's music videos, perfect for some nostalgic fun. Players can take selfies in front of a blue wall that nods to the Blue Album and face a boss character inspired by Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo, who wields a stun gun made of thread.
Sweat(er) City allows up to 24 players to team up to carry out heists, stealing valuable items from places like banks and museums. The more successful heists players complete, the more money they earn to improve their in-game lifestyle, but they will also attract the attention of rival players. There are three gangs in the game: Nitro Gang, Viper Squadron, and Shadow Empire, each vying for control of the island.
Alex Seropian, CEO of Look North World, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “Sweat(er) City is about having fun with friends while pulling off amazing heists, and there's no better soundtrack than the music of Weezer.”
Weezer's Rivers Cuomo added: “Weezer and Fortnite go together like rock n roll and a coffee shop. Join us at Arnold's Drive-In, but be careful…they might get you drunk!
Players can jump into Sweat(er) City using the Fortnite Creative Island code 8484-8812-9198. For more information, check out details on Sweat(er) City and Weezer's tour.
