Sony has The shiny new PS5 Pro has been officially revealedAnd performance improvements aside, there's one feature that arguably stands out more than any other: its enormous price tag.
He PS5 Pro will cost $699.99 / £699.99 in the US and UK respectively when it launches in November, but those prices are surprising for more reasons than one. Namely, those two numbers are the sameeven though the exchange rate of the US dollar and the British pound means that the currencies are not even remotely equal in value.
To be precise, using a currency converter. as OANDAWe can see that $700 is roughly equivalent to £535 at the time of writing, while £700 is equivalent to $915. With that in mind, UK consumers are essentially being charged hundreds of dollars more for the console than those in the US, and those prices don't even take into account the console's vertical stand and disc drive, which are sold separately as optional add-ons.
This isn't a problem unique to the UK. For European fans, €800 works out to around $882, while $700 works out to just €635. Meanwhile, in Japan, 120,000 yen works out to around $840, while $700 works out to 100,025 yen. Of course, the PS5 Pro isn't exactly cheap. anywhere Around the world, it seems that many non-American countries like these have gotten the short end of the stick.
We'll have to wait and see if that high price tag ends up affecting the popularity of the Pro model when it launches on November 7th – some people may choose to trade in their current PS5s, which could make the cost feel a little less substantial in light of those improved specifications.
