If you were thinking about slapping one of your old PlayStation 5 faceplates on your shiny new PS5 Pro when it launches on November 7, Sony has bad news for you; The company has now confirmed that there is no compatibility between the two.
“I had some cobalt blue plates so I decided to try them on the Pro,” wrote user Zrorro, “and I can confirm that the bottom plates match the Slim. However, the top plates do not match because while they are physically the same” “The size, the teeth that connect to the system are in slightly different places, so you can't connect the top.”
“I'm just telling you all this,” they added, “so you know and don't bother ordering plates for Slim to use in the Pro.”
And now, Sony has confirmed the news, telling Agency that “PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro.” The company did note, however, that “players will be able to swap out different console skins for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future.” So there you have it; Goodbye dear old faceplates, hello new £45+ selection specific to PS5 Pro.
PlayStation 5 Pro will, of course, cost £699.99 when it launches on November 7 (so a reluctance to spend more on new faceplates would be understandable), and if you're wondering if it's worth it, Digital Foundry recently had a opportunity to participate in practice.
