NYT Strands Today (Game #252): The Answers
The answers to today's Strands game number 252 are…
- HOP
- CIVIL
- STRONG
- BUSINESS
- BIRTHDAY
- LEISURE
- SPANGRAM: WELL SUITABLE
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: 2 tracks
Quite often I disagree with the NYT's choice of topic. This is possibly unfair, because as I know from experience, it can be very difficult to come up with a clue that's useful without giving away the game. But even taking this into account, the choice of “Good Fit” here seems a little misleading. After all, “good fit” works perfectly for the spangram, WELL FIT and for some of today's answers, for example LEISURE and JUMP. But it doesn't work for CIVIL or BIRTHDAY at all; These are types of suits, yes, but they don't “fit” in any way. STRONG can be: If something is your strong point, it is a good choice for you. But CIVIL in particular… no, I needed a different track here.
That put me on the wrong path and I needed two clues to establish that yes, all the answers were stick types. Once I knew that, it was pretty easy to find the others. And maybe that's why it's better that the hint threw me off, because without that I probably would have had another perfect game, and that gets boring after a while…
