Rumors about Nintendo Switch 2 are multiplying as the New Year approaches and a new one has apparently revealed just how powerful the new console will be.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated game releases of 2025, and although it's been almost eight years since Nintendo first unveiled the original console, it would be fair to say that it's never really been about power.
The nature of the console as a handheld hybrid means that, for the most part, it focuses more on battery life than performance, and while there have been technically impressive titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, It looks like it's running out of steam a little. .
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were big disappointments in terms of performance, and we've become accustomed to purchasing third-party titles years earlier on more powerful hardware, but that could soon change.
Nintendo Switch 2 could be as powerful as a PS4 Pro
On paper, the original Switch has been described as having similar power to a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 generation console, leaving it significantly behind, but now rumors on social media suggest the next console, which will supposedly be called Switch. 2, will offer similar power to the PS4 Pro, at least when docked, and the portable version will be closer to a PS4.
Even if it's closer to the base PS4, even when docked, it would be a huge leap forward from generation to generation and hopefully means backwards compatible titles will run better (we're looking at you, Pokémon) while still giving you will give Nintendo more room for more ambitious titles.
It's worth noting that this is all coming from X (formerly Twitter) users working with as-yet unconfirmed technical specifications, but it's not out of the realm of possibility to expect an increase in specs. After all, the Steam Deck is a portable system that can run Cyberpunk 2077 on a handheld, something we would have thought impossible in 2020 when that game was released.
And, even if you only join the Switch family towards the end of the current generation, you'll be able to build a huge library of fantastic titles to take with you to the next console.
In case you missed it, a render based on leaked information went viral yesterday and if true, it's clear that the Switch 2 will be attractive.
