Nintendo lawyers reportedly visited accessory maker Genki at the CES show last week, a journalist claimed, after videos of its fictional Switch 2 console went viral.
Prominent French tech journalist Julien Tellouck was one of several journalists who stopped by Genki's booth at CES last Friday, when he claimed that Nintendo's lawyers had visited the company.
Mockup images of Genki's Switch 2 unit, which the company's loquacious CEO initially claimed was based on the actual final design of Nintendo's hidden console, spread across the Internet last week. Clearly, Nintendo noticed this.
However, according to Tellouck, Genki simply told Nintendo that he had never signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with the company and therefore technically had not broken any rules.
“I talked to the guy from Genki who was right behind me, he told me that Nintendo had gone through there with lawyers; they had nothing to be reprimanded for because they had never signed a document with Nintendo; there was no confidentiality agreement, no NDA “Tellouck said. . “That's why Japanese brands are calm.
“On the other hand, [Genki] “They told me that they were sure that the Nintendo Switch 2, except for a few details, would look like this 3D prototype.”
Perhaps most notably, late last week Genki had decided to make it clear that he hadn't actually seen the Switch 2, having previously said he knew the units were now available on the black market.
Last Friday also finally brought an acknowledgment of the leaks from Nintendo. Speaking to Japanese newspaper The Sankei Shimbun, a Nintendo spokesperson simply stated that the CES images and videos were “not official.”
With details of the Switch 2's hardware design spreading, more leaks have also begun detailing the Switch 2's lineup of third-party software. Microsoft will reportedly be a big supporter, along with Square Enix with multiple Final titles Fantasy. Surely, after months of waiting, official news is now imminent.
