Another milestone for NieR: Automata
NieR: Automata, the incredible action role-playing game from Square Enix and PlatinumGames, has passed another sales milestone. It has ultimately sold over nine million copies in total shipments and digital sales worldwide.
The game originally came out for PlayStation 4 and PC in 2017. The following year, it received a port for Xbox One. The Switch version, 'The End of YoRHa Edition' arrived in 2022. In February of this year it was announced that the game had sold eight million copies. Now, in just 10 months, the game has reached a whole new level.

In a year-end interview with 4Gamer.net, NieR producer Yosuke Saito reflected on reaching another major milestone for the series in 2025, which marks its 15th anniversary. He hinted at interesting possibilities and mentioned his hopes of working on the “next game” or exploring related developments. While he kept the details under wraps, he encouraged fans to stay tuned and look forward to what the future holds for the beloved series.
This is what he said (Thanks to Gematsu):
“2025 will be a historic year as it will mark the 15th anniversary of the NieR series, so I would like to do something for it! What should we do… maybe something with the next game, or developments related to that? I've been listening to the fans' expectations. It's a bit complicated, though… That said, since I'll probably be doing less direct work as a producer, I'd appreciate it if you could wait patiently for what's coming.”
