A new trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie has been released, showing off its version of the Chao Garden.
Of course, it's not exactly how you remember it from the games: it's some kind of mascot cafe with Chao characters dancing and a group of kids asking Tails if he's Detective Pikachu.
Then things go wrong and we soon see Keanu Reeves' Shadow the Hedgehog in the middle of the Shibuya crossing in Tokyo. You can watch the trailer below.
The trailer offers the best look yet at Shadow (with a gun!), as well as Jim Carrey's two villains Eggman and Maria Robotnik from Shadow's past.
Despite its real-world setting, it looks like the film will include many elements familiar to fans of the games.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will hit theaters on December 20, just before Christmas. It's fitting that the trailer ends with a Christmas scene, in a callback of sorts to Carrey's performance as The Grinch.
The film will conclude Sega's Year of Shadows, which also included the excellent Sonic x Shadow Generations.
For those unfamiliar, Chao Garden allowed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 players to level up the cute Chao creatures and then compete and battle them. It's a highly requested feature in a potential Sonic Adventure 3 game, although Sonic Team's Takashi Iizuka has “no plans” for such a project.
