Gender: Sports drama
Execution time: 2 hours and 11 minutes
Director: Luca Guadagnino
Cast: Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist

Luca Guadagnino's sensual sports drama about a love triangle in professional tennis has taken some circles around the world by storm since its release in late April, and is one of the best films of the year. Now, you can enjoy it at home.

That script is a terrific three-course dinner for Faist and O’Connor. They get to alternate between protagonist and villain roles from scene to scene and time to time, as Art and Patrick help and hurt each other in equal measure. But it’s an absolute buffet for Zendaya, who even in leading roles has never had this much room to expand. Tashi is a gratifyingly rich character, at once justifiably angry at the failure of her ambitions and cruelly angry at all the men who have the gall to keep playing the game that was taken from her. She’s simultaneously hungry for affection and withholding it, by turns sensually curious and coolly dispassionate, ambitious and exhausted, conflicted and self-assured. She’s the kind of character media master’s theses are made of, and unravelling Tashi’s conflicted motives and how she integrates them is likely to become a pop culture obsession in the months ahead.
