Matt Forbeck, New York Times bestselling author and lead designer of the Marvel Multiverse Role Playing Gameteamed up with his son Marty to launch a new tabletop adventure set in the world of minecraft. Now available for pre-order, Minecraft: Roll for Adventure: Temple of the Charged Creeper is intended to imbue the mass appeal of online open-world creation gameplay with a set of easy-to-learn RPG rules.
The publisher, Penguin Random House, does not offer any description of the mechanics, a common theme in pre-orders for large IP-based tabletop releases. The book's cover shows two six-sided dice, and the publisher's listing indicates that “four dice” are included with the game book. The brief description also says that the book includes “a removable character sheet” and a “rules reference to help you track your heroic progress,” suitable for solo play or giving to a game master. (In this context, referred to as “your narrator.”)
The adventure takes place in an isolated village that has recently been invaded by “illagers”, a type of hostile mob in the minecraft universe. (They are also the main antagonists of Forbeck's 2020 novel. Minecraft dungeons: Rise of the Archillager.) Just like a traditional Dungeons & Dragons quest, the player must help a village that is under attack by finding the source of the problem (the Temple of the Charged Creeper) and destroying it.
Although there have been collaborations between minecraft and Dungeons & Dragons in the past, such as the Lightning Tower adventure aimed at young players: this independent adventure is entirely the creation of the Forbecks. Matt Forbeck's previous work, both as a board game designer and novel author for properties like D&D, minecraft, Haloand life is strangealong with its own original titles, it gives some weight to the lack of description on the game page. If you land with minecraft Fans and tabletop gamers alike will be spotted when the book hits shelves in July 2025.
The hardcover edition of Minecraft: Roll for Adventure: Temple of the Charged Creeper is available for pre-order on the Penguin Random House site for $20.
