Similar to how the early phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe turned B- and C-list heroes into the biggest stars on the planet, the next chapter of the megafranchise aims to cull supporting characters from passable movies and dubious TV shows to a team. Summary movie with high potential.
Marvel and Disney released a new extended trailer for Good heavens* on Saturday, after a debut at the pop-up Brasil D23 convention, and it feels a bit like old times with the chemistry and enthusiasm. Plus, we get some color polish that we haven't seen in an MCU movie since… maybe ever? Yeah Deadpool and Wolverine made every self-referential punchline imaginable to help Marvel get through a bad year, next May could reinvigorate the ongoing saga.
All the characters get attention in the new trailer, including Yelena Belova/White Widow (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, US Agent/John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ghost/Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster/ Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko) and Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). Then there's Bob (Lewis Pullman). Although it is not clear if he is friend or enemy. Then there's Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Nick Fury's space, providing sparks and punches.
The big surprise is that, even though they took most of the crew out of black widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldiercompanies that remain totally blurry for many reasons, the cast provides the relationship. And Stan has really become the MCU's star badass, huh? He goes Terminator in a clip from the film's big desert chase. Fun!
Is it all just a well-cut trailer released at a time when a dash of old-school Marvel flavor goes a long way or director Jake Schreier (robot and frank) deliver the merchandise? we will know when Good heavens* hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
