Lego Horizon Adventures Review
Lego Horizon Adventures feels like the pinnacle of all of the above. It does an excellent job of using the source material to create a fun and humorous version of Aloy's story from Sony's hit 'Horizon' series. Plus, it's easily the most beautiful of all the Lego sets. Sometimes I'm a little disappointed in how safe Horizon Adventures feels. But you can't deny that he is one of, if not he The best Lego games out there.
As mentioned, Lego Horizon Adventures achieves its whimsical take on the stories told in Horizon. If you've played a licensed Lego game before, you won't be surprised to find that Horizon Adventures follows the exact model of taking all of the major plot points found in Horizon and condensing them into entertaining, easily digestible versions of themselves. Kids with no prior knowledge of the Horizon series will be able to dive in and quickly understand what's going on without any problems. Adults familiar with Horizon will find that it does a wonderful job of retelling Aloy's story with a light-hearted twist.
pure happiness
Adding to the stellar production value is some excellent voice work from the original game's cast. Ashly Burch (Aloy) and JB Blanc (Rost) are fantastic in their roles. Naturally, they're not as serious as we've become accustomed to, but their ability to capture the essence of their characters while injecting them with joy and humor is impeccable. I didn't expect to be as interested in these versions of established Horizon personalities as I was, and I found this to be one of Lego Horizon Adventures' greatest strengths.
Throughout your time with Lego Horizon Adventures, you will be taken through various landscapes, much like those in Horizon. Snow-capped mountains, grasslands, desert plains and much more await you. Discovering new areas is as entertaining as ever, even when, as a series veteran, I knew what to expect. This is mainly due to how beautiful Lego Horizon Adventures is. Thanks to a combination of supreme lighting techniques and spot shadows, playing each new level was pure bliss. It's been a long time since I played a Lego game and I wasn't aware of how far they'd come visually.
Play safe
However, where Lego Horizon Adventures didn't surprise me was in its simple gameplay. I understand that these games should be accessible to all age groups. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't expecting to see a more nuanced control scheme. Combat is reduced to running, jumping and attacking. People familiar with Horizon know that Aloy has a vast arsenal of tools at its disposal. Both in terms of maneuvering and attacking. While there's a skill tree you can use to upgrade particular abilities, Horizon Adventures doesn't take any risks by letting Lego Aloy feel closer to her older counterpart.
Although, to tell you the truth, although I would love to have more control over Aloy, I don't think it's that necessary. Lego Horizon Adventures, even on its hardest difficulty, is incredibly easy. I know Lego games have never been known for their difficulty. However, I can't help but feel that Lego Horizon Adventures was the perfect opportunity to break the mold and introduce some genuine challenges for those seeking them.
Do what you do best
Fortunately, Lego Horizon Adventures continues to do what the Lego franchise does best. It offers dense levels that are full of secrets to discover. There's something about destroying everything in your path, collecting studs, and unlocking items that never gets old. Horizon Adventures continues to capture this feeling, offering a wealth of content for players to get their hands on. Those who are addicted to the basic Lego systems will feel right at home. Credit must be given to the development team for managing to deliver something that doesn't feel unique but ends up being as entertaining as ever.
For my money, Lego Horizon Adventures is the best Lego game I've ever played. It does a great job of retelling Aloy's story, without ever losing sight of what makes Lego games great. Sometimes it's hilarious and other times heartwarming. Plus, it looks absolutely beautiful. It's also packed with content for players to discover, rewarding those who take the time to search every corner of its diverse set of levels. I feel like sometimes he plays things too safe. But for fans of the Lego games, it has everything one could want from a new entry to the franchise.
