James Gunn has reiterated his plan to keep his DCU series releasing one episode per week, rather than the all-at-once or staggered models used by other studios and streamers.
In response to a fan who asked why the DC animated series Creature Commandos didn't premiere all at once, DC Studios co-CEO and Superman director Gunn responded on Twitter: “Because it gives a quality show the opportunity to be discussed and grow from one week to the next. week.
Gunn continued: “[Creature Commandos] It has become more popular from episode to episode due to the positive discussion around it and has cultivated an enthusiastic audience. If we had deleted all the episodes at once, who knows what would have happened. I'll probably always be in camp for a week for our shows. For people who want to binge in one go, you can wait until the end of the season.”
Creature Commandos debuted on Max in early December and features a motley crew of monsters and, yes, creatures assembled by Amanda Waller. Led by Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the team features the likes of Bride (Indira Varma), Doctor Phosphorous (Alan Tudyk), GI Robot (Sean Gunn) and Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour).
The animated series also kicks off Chapter One of the DCU, the first step in DC Studios' rebooted cinematic universe. That also includes Superman on July 11, 2025, with the new Superman trailer surprising fans earlier this month (and also introducing a hidden DC character, for good measure).
Presumably, Gunn's statement also means that previously announced shows, like Lanterns and a Booster Gold series, will also take things one episode at a time.
Speaking at Lanterns, John Stewart actor Aaron Pierre told GamesRadar+ that he's looking forward to working with a team at the peak of their powers.
“We're in the early days of the Lanterns process and the collaboration between DC and HBO. But what I can tell you is that everyone involved is absolutely elite in their respective fields.” Pierre said.
“Everyone is deeply passionate and wants this to be the best version of themselves, not only for us as a family telling the story, but also for the people. This is a very beloved character and there is such a beautiful energy surrounding the project and We, of course, want to fulfill it and more. We really want to start working. I am in preparation at the moment and I really want to do it.
