An unprecedented leak has hit the Pokémon series' lead developer, Game Freak, and revealed tons of previously unknown information about unused monsters, unannounced projects, and a possible Switch 2 codename.
Game Freak acknowledged the situation in a statement posted to its website earlier this week, where the studio apologized to employees for the leak of potentially sensitive data by an anonymous third party, while confirming that it has secured its servers. and is currently working to strengthen its backend security. .
For all of you just tuning in, we're currently covering Game Freak Teraleak. A lot of source files and beta content from previous Pokémon games are currently leaking, along with some details about upcoming projects. We expect more information to be revealed in the coming hours… pic.twitter.com/KdoJ4G87SbOctober 12, 2024
However, details of the leak, which is said to include gigabytes of information, are still hitting social media. Most notably, the complete source code for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver is reportedly online, opening the floodgates for never-before-seen mods, along with dozens of concept art showing early designs for beloved creatures and scrapped Pokémon that never made it to the finish line.
The leaks are not as revealing as those that hit Insomniac Games last year. The most information we have about the upcoming Pokémon Legends: ZA is that it is currently being tested, for example. However, there are also supposedly mentions of the 10th generation of Pokémon, codenamed Gaia, being tested for something called 'Ounce', which is believed to be the codename for Nintendo Switch 2.
One of the most interesting tidbits from the leaks is that there is an unannounced game in development at Game Freak and ILCA, the studio that remade Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, that could be some kind of multiplayer project. And finally, there are treatments and concept art for several live-action and anime films, including one for a Pokémon Detective sequel, although some of those projects were already scheduled to come out, so they may have been shelved or scrapped by complete. .
Pokémon fans use Mega Evolutions and French history to discover Legends ZA starters, and we're already sold.
