House of the Dead movie in the works from Resident Evil, Monster Hunter director

I hope you like video game adaptations, because we have another one on the horizon. Sega's The House of the Dead is ready for the big screen, with Paul WS Anderson attached as writer and director.

Anderson will also serve as producer, alongside his partner Jeremy Bolt. You may recognize the names Anderson and Bolt. The duo has also worked on film adaptations such as Mortal Kombat (1995) and Monster Hunter (2020), as well as multiple Resident Evil films.

Additionally, Sega's Toru Nakahara will produce alongside Story Kitchen's Dmitri M Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Dan Jevons. Executive producer duties are handled by Timothy I. Stevenson.

“I've loved the video game since the '90s,” Anderson told Deadline. “Back then I was a big arcade gamer, and that's how I came across Mortal Kombat. And around the same time, I was also playing a lot of House of the Dead. It's a title I've always loved.”

The director said that the upcoming adaptation will be based on House of the Dead three. “It's about a woman, Lisa Rogan, who tries to rescue her father. And it's also about Daniel Curien, who is the son of the man who caused this mutant outbreak in the first place and who has to deal with the sins of the father. “Anderson said.

“My approach will be to reflect what this kinetic, hyper-immersive video game is, which is why Zack Snyder took these creatures and made them move quickly… This is a complete horror ride. It's different from what we did with Resident Evil, where “There were a lot of traps and puzzles and things to solve, House of the Dead is essentially a light rail shooter, so it drags you right into the center of the action.”

Deadline noted that Sega has protected its property and the company hired Toru Nakahara, Sega's head of film and television production. Nakahara stated that the success of the Sonic film adaptations had actually “changed the dynamic towards our transmedia policies” and since then the company has been “actively developing many productions, considering them as an initiative to expand the entire Sega brand.”

As for the aforementioned Sonic adaptations, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie starring Keanu Reeves arrives in December.
