When the first trailer of Heretic was released, it immediately made it onto my list of new A24 movies I can't wait to see in 2024. It's easy to see why, and the trailers for the new movie were actually very intriguing. I mean, everyone was talking about how nice it was to see Hugh Grant go from his romantic comedy roots to something much more sinister.
The configuration for Heretic is simple but effective: two young Mormon missionaries show up at the house of Mr. Reed, who has apparently requested a visit to learn more about his faith. Unfortunately for them, they have fallen into a horrible trap that could cost them their sanity or even their lives. But despite the great concept and the fact that it turned out to be a very good movie, there is another recent 2024 release that holds a special place in my heart. A movie that deserves its place on our list of the best Max movies, that's for sure.
Why I watched TV Glow is still my favorite movie of the year
In no way am I comparing films to others unnecessarily, but rather a celebration of why I saw the brightness of the television It has had a great impact on me. It's not a particularly unique take, but I can count on one hand the number of A24 films I didn't like, and it's refreshing to see that their output is still as strong as it is.
For me, I saw the brightness of the television is perhaps A24's greatest achievement to date. I love everything about it, from the color palette, the way it plays off of fun and cheesy 90s TV, the exploration of fandom and identity, it's all wonderful and I found myself completely transfixed. I'm not alone either, as my colleague Rowan Davies also thanked the film for encouraging him to revisit his favorite Hulu show. Its impact simply cannot be ignored, it is as terrifying as it is beautiful, it manages to blend both feelings into something truly special.
I was curious to see if anything would knock this movie off my top spot, especially during the Halloween season. Even The substancewhich recently got a streaming release date, wasn't enough to do so. I consider it to be the best body However, the horror of the year definitely earned that title. It's been a strong year for horror, and yet Jane Schoenbrun's brilliant film has remained firmly in my number one spot. Honestly, I'm impressed.
Is Heretic still worth watching?
Yeah! Don't get me wrong, I loved it. It scared me more than I expected, to the point that I found myself jumping out of my skin at one particular moment, so it's a strong contender for best horror movies of the year in my opinion. it's just not he better.
A lot depends on Hugh Grant's performance and I can confirm that it does. serious bad boy very good. Sure, we've seen him in more comedic villain roles like Paddington 2 and the Dungeons and Dragons movie, but I loved his adventure in horror and I hope you like it more. His character is a strange combination of unlikeable, charming, and downright terrifying, to the point that you feel very uncomfortable watching him. Discomfort is definitely what Heretic It's searching and it does it very well, forcing you to ask questions along the way.
The best part about this is that I recommend you watch both movies (I saw the brightness of the television is currently on Max), and I for one am delighted that we're being treated to so many good, thought-provoking horrors. Long may it continue.
