Following the launch of Hell Divers 2In the 60-day update, players seem to be pretty happy with the improvements and changes that have been brought to the game. However, the one weapon that fans have liked isn't a primary, secondary, or stratagem. It's the Thermite Grenade.
The benefit for Hell Divers 2The thermite grenade in this 60-day update feels like a bug, but I think it's very deliberate. Before the update, the thermite grenade would stick to enemies, tickle them, and heat them up with a spark of fire when it exploded. Now, it scorches enemies before causing a colossal explosion that can shatter a Bile Titan's shell and scatter its slimy innards across the surface of a planet.
You will need sunglasses for this.
The official patch notes for Hell Divers 2The 60 Days update notes that the Thermite Grenade's damage has been increased from 100 to 2000. The device takes less time to start sparking and dealing damage, and the time until the explosion has also been reduced slightly. While the Thermite Grenade's charge capacity has been reduced from 4 to 3, I think that's the most balanced of these changes, given its newfound power.
No matter where you look, Hell Divers 2 Players are talking about how powerful the Thermite Grenade is. Among the dozens of meme posts about it on the game's subreddit, the above post is my favorite because it shows how you can take down a Bile Titan, the apex predator of the Terminids, with just one of these grenades.
I hopped into the game to see if the Thermite Grenade was as powerful as fans say, and I can confirm that it is. This grenade, which is locked behind the first page of the Flame of Liberty War Bond, is fantastic.
Along with the increased movement and aim speed and all the other balance changes in the 60-day update, Hell Divers 2 It feels like it was at launch once again. The gameplay is fluid and lets you run around planets, killing hundreds of enemies with a wide array of futuristic weapons.
But it's also very useful for reminding you that your absurd power doesn't make you invincible. In fact, I used thermite grenades to close up bug holes and create walking bombs among the terminids I faced. I also got caught in the explosions of more than one of my grenades, resulting in two magazines simultaneously crushing me when I landed after a particularly uncomfortably close explosion.
A few months ago, or even days ago, I would have said that Arrowhead Game Studios would be stepping in this week to nerf the Thermite Grenade. However, it's been less than 24 hours since this update began and Hell Divers 2 Players are loving this explosive release and all the other changes they're experiencing so far. I'm hopeful that this is the turning point the developer and community have been waiting for, and that we can once again look forward to the Illuminate rearing their old alien heads and unleashing a new stage of Galactic War II.
