Check out Ghost of Yōtei
Sony has confirmed a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima called Ghost of Yōtei during its State of Play presentation. The game is set to release sometime in 2025.
The State of Play grand finale brought with it a big surprise. Developer Sucker Punch revealed some stunning new footage, accompanied by beautiful cinematics. As the title suggests, this game will feature a new environment. It will also introduce a new hero named Atsu, who is a departure from Ghost of Tsushima's Jin Sakai.
The developer didn't give too many hints during its presentation, but a PlayStation blog gave us a bit more information afterwards. The game will be set in 1603, 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. The story will take place in the area around Mount Yōtei, which is Hokkaido in the present day. Sucker Punch is calling it “It’s a far cry from the organized samurai clans that lived in Tsushima, and it’s the setting for an original story that we’re excited to tell.”
According to the post, the developer “We wanted to maintain the core pillars established in Ghost of Tsushima: playing as a wandering warrior in feudal Japan, offering freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world.”
“We also wanted to keep innovating. To create something new yet familiar, we looked beyond the story of Jin Sakai and the island of Tsushima, and shifted our focus to the idea of the Ghost,” the post continues. “At Sucker Punch we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it might mean to have a new hero don a Ghost mask and uncover a new legend. This led us to Ghost of Yōtei: a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore.”
