If you've been sleeping in the Akira Kurosawa-inspired bed, Assassin's Creed-samurai style game The Ghost of Tsushimayou've been missing out. Since it was only recently released on PC, this is a great time to catch up, but now there's even more reason to do so as Sony has just announced a sequel titled Ghost of Yotei.
The game, which is set for release in 2025, bears similarities to its predecessor. It follows a wandering samurai who rides horses through picturesque, windswept fields, befriends animals and defeats enemies in katana duels.
While The Ghost of Tsushima The story takes place on the island of Tsushima during the time of the Mongol invasion. Ghost of Yotei It is located (appropriately) at the foot of Mount Yōtei, one of the most picturesque places in Japan (today the area is called Hokkaido).
Most fans of the first game were expecting a new location in TsushimaThe sequel to 's, but you might not have expected the other big change: there seems to be a new protagonist. The woman who appears in the trailers is not Jin Sakai, the main character of TsushimaThis suggests that the franchise will move forward with something of an anthology format rather than direct sequels. A Sony blog post says the new character is named Atsu.
The blog post also says that Yotei takes place in 1603, 300 years after the events of Tsushima.
However, developer Sucker Punch hasn't revealed anything about gameplay beyond what we see in the trailer. So far, what we see looks almost identical to what we've played before. However, there are sure to be more announcements in the future.
