Join people like metroid 2, Kirby's Dream Land, Link's Awakeningand tons of other awesome Game Boy games, the Nintendo Switch Online retro catalog now includes another classic: Donkey Kong Land. It is nominally a Game Boy adaptation of Donkey Kong Country for SNES, but the game actually has a slightly different story, enemy changes, and some entire levels that aren't in Country.
The main reason why I love Donkey Kong Land —and, while we're here, Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3which will likely be coming to Nintendo Switch Online soon as these retro games are added, is how the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack was adapted to the Game Boy's sound chip. The rearrangements of these catchy classic songs are very impressive; You can check out the sound in the trailer found in Nintendo's post on X announcing the game's addition to Switch Online. No shade for the SNES but I simply prefer the sound of the Game Boy. I used to pause this game just to listen to specific tracks.
By the way, the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy is also already on Nintendo Switch Online, so you can delve into DK's catalog if that's your thing. These games hold up pretty well considering they are from the 90s.
