Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is officially verified on the Steam Deck ahead of its January 23 debut on PC, paving the way for incredibly long JRPG sessions in the bathroom.
Before you accuse me of reducing myself to literal toilet humor, as if it's the first or last time I'd do that, Square Enix did it first. Don't you believe me? Just head over to the official press release and you'll see that the publisher suggests you “play the critically acclaimed RPG on a train, on a plane, wrapped up in a bed, in the bathroom… wherever you want.” Okay, no We will do it.” judge.”
Anyway, according to Valve, there are four levels of Steam Deck compatibility that games can have: Unknown, Not Supported, Playable, which simply means they work but aren't perfect, and Verified. Verified games support the Deck's default resolution, have full system support, have no compatibility warnings or launchers that are not navigable with a controller, and have full controller support. They will also use the correct controller input icons and auto-complete the on-screen keyboard when necessary. Put much more succinctly, if a game is verified on Steam Deck, it will run just as well on Deck as it does on its native platform.

Released alongside the Steam Deck news was a new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer for PC, showing off several PC-specific features including improved lighting and visuals, DLSS functionality, various graphics options, and mouse and keyboard support. I'm the furthest thing from a PC enthusiast, but yeah, it sure looks nice. If I had a Steam Deck, I'd play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on it… in the bathroom. Square Enix said it could!
