Take a look:
“A world under Doom! Six months ago, Doctor Victor Von Doom became Sorcerer Supreme and then disappeared behind the closed borders of Latveria. For most, there is enough going on in the world that the absence of Doom is not a priority, and some time without him feels like a blessing,” reads Marvel's official description for One World Under Doom #1.
“Only a few recognize it for what it truly was… the calm before the storm. It is a storm that has now arrived. The world has awakened to a new reality: Doctor Doom, the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, has magically took control of all the media on the planet and declared himself Emperor of the World – ruler of a new United Latveria!” continue. “And surprisingly, impossibly, all of Earth's leaders seem to agree with this. Fortunately, whether it's mind control or Doombots, whatever is affecting them hasn't affected Earth's heroes, so they quickly form a strike team to stop Doom's machinations.
“But will they make it? And what will happen when some begin to welcome their new Emperor with open arms, clamoring for One World Under Doom?”
Marvel is comparing the status quo of One World Under Doom to its 2008 Dark Reign imprint, which saw Norman Osborn take over as director of S.H.I.E.L.D., making him HAMMER while also assembling his own personal Dark Avengers team as Iron Patriot. . Dark Reign concluded with Siege, which caused the floating city of Asgard to crash to Earth, resulting in Loki's death and the reunification of the Avengers.
“For me, Doom is the ultimate villain, because even when he loses he wins. He's not a guy you can beat until he stops committing crimes: he's a man who has thought deeply about how to achieve precisely what he wants and how to ensure that others are manipulated into supporting him,” says writer Ryan North in a statement. “One World Under Doom begins after Doom has taken over the world overnight, and there's a mystery to how he did it, how he got everyone to accept his rule, but there's also a bigger, scarier question: now that has taken over the world, what are you going to do with it? And what will the Fantastic Four and the Avengers do to stop it?
One World Under Doom #1 goes on sale February 12.
