A former Call of Duty developer is making a game where dinosaurs fight each other with huge swords, and it got 10,000 wishlists on its first day on Steam.
Dinoblade is the type of video game that makes me love video games. Developed by Jean Nguyen, who currently works at Sucker Punch as a senior game animator, it started as a joke after they posted a video of a Spinosaurus goes crazy with a Buster Sword there were people clamoring to make it into a full game.
The game's description on Steam describes it as an action RPG that “takes place right after a major event that changed what we know about dinosaurs.” Clearly, they have huge swords now.
“You will embark on a journey as a young Spinosaurus who can use a great sword to fight other dinosaurs who also use weapons to stop an extinction.” How can a dinosaur sword stop an extinction? Maybe stopping a meteorite. There is already a game that allows you stop a nuclear bomb.
Dinoblade is now available on the Steam wishlist! It started as just animations for my demo reel, to gaining enough attention to turn it into a game, so here we are. Dinoblade has been in development for just over 1 year and wishlisting it will be a huge help! Thank you all! pic.twitter.com/rDtjC6CiWGJanuary 14, 2025
A trailer for Dinoblade shows off the kinetic combos that all types of dinosaurs in the game can perform. It looks like you play as a Spinosaurus facing off against many larger enemies. One of them even has a colossal scythe with which he will cut you into pieces.
The fighting style is a lot like Devil May Cry, with a little bit of old school God of War thrown in. The dinosaurs launch themselves into the air and juggle the unlucky loser with sword strikes. There are also parries and counterattacks, so the combat could be quite deep in the full game.
See all the next ones video game release dates so you know what else is on the horizon.
