Call of Duty: Block Ops 6 players accuse Activision of using "pending AI"

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players have attacked an “AI glitch” that they believe has been used in the game and its promotional materials.

Over the weekend, players noticed that a six-figure, zombified Santa Claus had appeared on the loading screen, and while some fans simply chalked it up as a nod to the fact that this is the sixth Black Ops game, others alleged which was evidence that the art was machine-generated, as AI typically has difficulty generating realistic-looking hands.

More generous fans suggested that the rogue finger could be the sidewalk behind the creepy Santa Claus, or even just the loose skin of an ungloved finger giving the impression of a sixth finger.

Santa's teeth and mustache have also come under scrutiny.

“It's very clear that the game is full of AI,” said one player in a thread titled “This is unacceptable right now.”

“This alone sucks, but the fact that the zombie team has been almost completely restructured because they want to use AI to replicate the actors' voices so they can STOP PAYING THEM.

“I don't care if not many people read this, but we need to know how fucked up and inexcusable this shit is. They're feeding us garbage because they want to pay their millionaire executives a little more. It's ridiculous.”

Last week, Activision announced that it will give the few remaining Call of Duty fans who haven't yet purchased this year's Black Ops 6 or played it through Game Pass the chance to get stuck in for free next week, as part of a seven-day test. The Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 free trial begins next Friday, December 13 on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. It will continue during the following week and will end on Friday, December 20.

“For a series built on high-octane thrills and explosive gratification, its retreat into the well-worn formula echoes the industry's continued allergy to risk at large,” wrote Chris Tapsell in his Call of Duty: Black Ops review. 6 from Eurogamer.
