Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies has an accessibility feature, a first for the series, that allows you to change the appearance of spiders for people suffering from arachnophobia. Which is really cool! The more accessibility options, the better. But hell, the things that replace spiders when you activate the setting are legless, wanton, and completely ungodly abominations.
Maybe it's simply because I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, which for my readers, across the pond from the United States, is essentially my country's Australia. I regularly encounter deadly rattlesnakes, centipedes, and, yes, all manner of spiders on my daily walks, so I may be particularly desensitized to arachnids. Still, there's no denying that the spider alternatives in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies are exceptionally depraved. Looking at them side by side, I'm not sure I'd want to sleep with any of them, but there's something distinctly otherworldly about the legless creatures.
Again, I'm really happy for anyone who suffers from arachnophobia that this environment exists. I've seen some pretty extensive arachnophobia setups in games before; Grounded has one that lets you turn spiders into shapeless blobs and everything else, while Lethal Company lets you turn them into the word “spider”; but the new Zombies mode seems pretty basic. From what I can figure, there is a setting that simply removes spider legs in a horrible way.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Only time will tell if he joins the ranks of the best Call of Duty games ever.
