McAlpine explained that doctors had estimated he had between 7 and 12 months to live in a worst-case scenario, and even if he responded well to chemotherapy treatment, it might not be another two years. As such, McAlpine reached out to the community on social media and asked if there was a possibility of being able to play the upcoming Borderlands 4 before its official release next year.
Developer Gearbox Software's CEO Randy Pitchford apparently caught wind of the situation and has since been emailing the longtime fan “so we can do everything we can to make something happen.”
Borderlands 4 is set on an entirely new planet instead of series mainstay Pandora.
