- Ray-Ban Meta glasses just received the new Live AI in early access
- Shazam's musical recognition is here too
- All new features are only available in the US and Canada
Meta closes out the year with a major update to its Ray-Ban smart glasses with two Live features that it introduced at Meta Connect 2024. It also adds Shazam integration to help you find the names of the songs you listen to while wearing your glasses.
The only downside to Live's awesome features is that they are in early access, so expect them to be less reliable than typical AI tools. Additionally, they will only be available to Early Access Program members in the US and Canada. Can sign up on the official Meta site.
But if you're in the early access program, you can now try out Live AI and Live Translation.
Live AI is like a video version of Look and Ask. Instead of taking a quick photo, your glasses will continuously record your view so you can chat with it about what you can see or other topics. What's more, during a Live AI session you won't need to say “Hello Meta” over and over again.
Meta adds that “Eventually, live AI, at the right time, will provide useful suggestions before you even ask them.” So be prepared for the AI to chime in with ideas without you directly telling it to.
The babel fish is approaching
Live Translation is another real-time artificial intelligence tool. This time it allows AI to automatically translate between English and Spanish, French or Italian.
When you talk to someone who speaks one of those three languages, you'll hear what they say in English through the glasses' open speakers or see it as a transcript on your phone, and they'll be able to hear it. listen to or read a translation of what you're saying in their language.
Fortunately, the update isn't just about early access features.
If you are at a New Year's Eve party and you like the sound of a tune, you can also ask your glasses “Hey Meta, Shazam, this song” and it will tell you which song is playing through the music recognition tool from Shazam. .
Unfortunately, while this feature is available more widely, it's once again only available in the US and Canada, so people in the UK and beyond won't have access to it just yet.
