Apple has released tons of new releases for its most popular product lines, like the M4 iMac and M4 Mac mini this week, but one of the biggest surprises was the tech giant's relaunch of three of its best-known peripherals: Magic Mouse, MagicKeyboard. and Magic Trackpad, now equipped with USB Type-C support.
However, looking at the list of Apple-branded accessories currently available, it all seems a little… lacking.
Where are the webcams and headphones? Mechanical keyboards? Gaming mice? These are important accessories that would target a considerable part of Apple's market.
For example, Apple has been growing its gaming sector by not only adding more titles through collaborations and studio ports, but has also made development on Mac devices much more accessible. As such, releasing peripherals aimed at gamers would be a smart next step in that direction.
Apple could succeed with new peripherals
Webcams are perfect for streaming gamers, while many professional gamers use mechanical keyboards and gaming mice due to their superior specifications. Headphones are also a no-brainer, as most professionals need improved audio.
But many of these peripherals can easily be repurposed for the broader non-gaming market. Webcams for those who need better visual quality during conference calls. Mechanical keyboards are great for office workers who often type non-stop for hours on end, as the designs tend to be more ergonomic and durable. Gaming mice are also more ergonomic and easier to move around due to their lighter weight.
As for headphones, Razer has shown that it can launch multipurpose ones for gaming, productivity and creative tasks like the Razer Barracuda Prowith great effect. Simply combine a sleeker design, more comfortable earpads and headbands, and excellent audio quality to attract Apple buyers. A high-quality wired headset would be especially useful for those editing video and audio, as AirPods are insufficient for the level of precision required.
Another peripheral that might appeal more to the creative market is a proper drawing tablet paired with Apple's stylus, similar to the popular third-party Wacom brand. Since one of the most well-known uses for Mac devices is creative work like art and visual editing, an Apple tablet would be absolutely perfect.
Apple's revitalization of its 'Magic' brand has put more eyes on its peripherals. As such, this is a golden opportunity for the tech giant to create more that they can target a much broader market. A market that, to this day, has had to resort to third-party solutions to make up for the lack of diversity of accessories.
