[Ed. note: This story contains spoilers for Dune: Prophecy season 1.]
Dune: Prophecy It has blown everything up. Not literally, but in a season that began with careful behind-the-scenes deals and manipulations, ProphecyThe ending that exposes all the maneuvers is a dramatic change of tone for the series. With season 1 ending with Valya (Emily Watson) fleeing to Arrakis alongside Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason), the table is certainly set for an epic war between planets. (This is Dune, after all.)
And with some dramatic introductions and exits (more on this below), the path forward for the Bene Gesserit in Dune: Prophecy It is less clear than ever. So what will a second season bring to Empire? Here's everything we know about Dune: ProphecySeason 2.
Is Dune: Prophecy season 2 happening?
Dune: Prophecy returns for another season. Warner Bros. announced that the show would return for Season 2 on Thursday, just a few days before the Season 1 finale. It was not announced how many episodes this new season would have.

This is something else that Warner Bros. didn't announce, so we have no real idea when this new season will be released. It's technically possible that filming has already started, but it's highly unlikely. If this is how the schedule worked out, then the show could return for another season next year. But it's much more likely that it will be filmed next year and ready for release in 2026. This pattern would also fit similar recent Warner Bros. shows, including the last of us and Dragon House.
What will Dune: Prophecy season 2 be about?
The show's Season 1 finale offers a surprisingly clear plan for the Season 2 plot. For example, we know that the emperor has died and the Bene Gesserit are likely to be blamed for it. We know that Desmond Hart is alive and that his eye is a robot with infectious diseases, and knowing his true origin doesn't seem to soften his hatred for the Bene Gesserit either.
Meanwhile, inside the Brotherhood's base of operations there is an insurgency led by a spirit of the Reverend Mother possessing the body of a young acolyte, so who knows where that plot will go.
At the heart of it all is the betrayal between Valya and Tula (Olivia Williams), the latter finally revealing that her son survived childbirth and she hid him, and now knows that he has become Desmond Hart. Learning of such a massive betrayal from a sister who thought she was in sync with the Brotherhood's vision is, to put it mildly, a pretty big jolt to the couple that leads the order. “Everything has been blown up, but I think Valya is probably still holding on to 'I'm the chosen one, I have destiny.' [that] remains their guide,” Watson said at a press conference before the finale. “[And] “I think Valya’s instinct is to run into the shadows.”
It's certainly a change for the sisters, particularly since Tula was immediately arrested by her own son and his Empire soldiers. With all that in mind, other plots will surely pick up in the show's second season, but that's a pretty rocky starting point, to say the least. Especially since, with Reverend Mother Valya's arrival on Arrakis, it's not entirely clear whether she intends to stop a war or start one.
“After a season in which Arrakis exerted its influence from afar […] “Going and putting boots on the ground in this incredibly overdetermined, almost mythical Dune space that we know very well, but kept at arm's length all season,” showrunner Alison Schapker said at a press conference, “is very significant that Valya is there.
“All I would say is that I think Valya is there; I think Valya will discover a lot more, given that she is in the past where Desmond emerged as an adversary. AND [it will] It will be interesting to see what he discovers out there.”
Will Dune 3 come out before the new season of Dune: Prophecy?
This is a very good question. Dune 3 is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. So, if all goes well, Prophecy Season 2 could arrive around September or October 2026, providing a perfect lead-in to the release of the new movie. On the other hand, if timelines get out of hand, we could have a situation similar to what happened this year, with a new Dune movie hitting theaters and the TV show following in its wake some nine months later.
