After learning of a pivotal jump in sprint racing Alan Wake 2 expansion The lake house During Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 in early January, developer Remedy Entertainment promised not to fix the bug that makes the strategy possible.
“Thanks to [the AGDQ 2025] directed by softpeanut, the lake house “The development team discovered that you can actually interact with the elevator from the outside… and immediately decided that that's not something that can be fixed,” the studio said via its official Bluesky account. “You are welcome.”
The jump is basically as described in Remedy. At various times during The lake housePlayers must travel by elevator between the different floors of the titular building. But by manipulating the elevator and choosing the desired floor from outside the transport after the doors close, speedrunners can teleport between floors instead of sitting during travel scenes.
During his performance at AGDQ 2025, the current world record holder for The lake house softpeanut said that each instance of the jump, which can be “tricky” due to having to press four buttons at the same time, saves between 20 and 30 seconds. Successfully used up to seven times throughout the game, this can save a lot of time on a quick run that takes less than 20 minutes to complete.
It's rare that a major studio leaves its game in a less than perfect state just to satisfy a small group of die-hard fans. hollow knight Speedrunners, for example, play a much older version of the game because developer Team Cherry fixed many of the bugs they used to finish the game as quickly as possible.
Remedy Entertainment did not immediately respond to Polygon's request for comment.
