A new theory from Agatha All Along presents another idea about the identity of Aubrey Plaza's character: comic book villain Lady Death.
“I see many parallels between this story and that of [Puss in Boots: The Last Wish],” one A Reddit user explained it. “Both feature a protagonist who is pursuing a wish and running from an imposing figure dressed in black (i.e. death). Agatha is running from death. Aubrey's character has a “black beating heart” for Agatha because she's been avoiding death for so long due to her stealing the life force of other witches. What's more damning is that in the official promotional art for the Agatha series featuring the tarot cards, Lady Death appears and is clearly holding the same knife that Aubrey Plaza's character is holding in Episode 1.”
In the new Marvel series, which follows 2021's WandaVision, Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) sets out on a quest to regain her powers by taking a trip down the legendary Witch's Way, with a newly formed, ragtag coven in tow. Faced with a series of trials, anyone who survives them all is promised they'll be rewarded with what they're missing out on.
As for Lady Death, she's an incarnation of Death, a major antagonist in Marvel Comics. In the comics, she's rubbed shoulders with Thanos and Deadpool, and she's also made appearances in the MCU before, sort of. Murals and statues of her can be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Love and Thunder.
“I love this theory. Aubrey would be a cool death,” another user responded. “She's got that slightly supernatural, not-quite-normal edge that she can do really well, and she's creepy, but only to certain people. Agatha has definitely flirted with death before, so the flirty-but-dangerous edge would make a lot of sense. I'm not sure it actually comes to fruition, but it would make me really happy if it did.”
Eagle-eyed fans may have discovered another piece of evidence supporting this theory in the form of a recent Promotional announcement on social networkswith the clip spelling out the word “death” via a Ouija board.
