Weeks ago, it may have seemed fair to question the existence of Agatha All Along. Most notable for its rotating list of name changes in the lead-up to release ( Coven of Chaos remains our favorite), it seemed inevitable that the Kathryn Hahn-led series would join the MCU's ever-growing selection of television series that have failed. to dazzle in recent years – like Secret Invasion and Echo.
Instead, what they have given us is a fascinating series that has enchanted viewers. Agatha All Along is fun, truly Fun and full of personality. The final result? A strikingly original, auteur-led project that also satisfies Marvel fans by simultaneously feeding into the wider universe – a creative tightrope walk that many have tried and failed to pull off over the years.
In fact, its most recent episode 7, the Lilia-centric Agatha All Along, not only surpassed the MCU's previous gold standard in its sister show WandaVision, but, in my opinion, gave us the best standalone episode of Marvel television , and one reason why creator Jac Schaeffer needs to become Marvel Television's answer to Kevin Feige. It's not bad to spend 30 minutes on tarot card readings and pointy-nosed cosplays of famous pop culture witches.
The seventh episode of Agatha All Along, 'Death's Hand in Mine', is, essentially, a perfect Marvel episode. Taking on a character who, by her own admission, felt like the “wacky” side of a coven in Lilia (Patti LuPone), she delivered a Witches' Road test that developed her character and her backstory to immensely satisfying effect.
we didn't do it need He didn't want to know about Lilia's Italian past and the fate of her former home, but it sure helped make the final sacrifice even more painful than it already was. The final cherry? Her tarot skills were the reason she turned the tables (and the tower) on the Salem Seven. Add in some jokes and perfect deliveries from its immensely talented cast (Teen's 'full name' is a tremendously good phrase), and it's a complete winner. Death's Hand in Mine even enriches a future second viewing of Agatha All Along thanks to the callbacks to Lilia's tarot cards scattered throughout the show so far.
season of the witch
Just on that basis, Jac Schaeffer, who now has WandaVision and Agatha All Along on her resume, she can certainly make the case for stepping in and being the TV equivalent of Kevin Feige.
For too long, Disney Plus efforts have lacked a cohesive vision and are only characterized by how different and disparate everything feels. In a cinematic universe where a thread is picked up as quickly as it is dropped again, WandaVision and Agatha All Along feel like two parts of a whole, and it's that kind of thinking that can really get the MCU going again in the future. future. small screen.
And, simply put, Kevin Feige can't oversee everything, no matter how much his public perception or the in-universe teasing of She-Hulk's KEVIN would have you believe. It's no surprise that after WandaVision, the MCU as a whole suffered a notable drop in quality. Feige and his team of producers were spread too thin; Schaeffer can help fix that, lest they make the same mistake they made with Loki director Kate Herron and let another top talent slip through their fingers.
So what's next for Schaeffer? Speculation on social media would suggest that an adaptation of the Marvel comic series Children's Crusade, in which Billy searches for the Scarlet Witch, would be part of the upcoming Vision Quest series. Interestingly, that comic is also a gift he gave to Billy Maximoff actor Joe Locke before filming Agatha All Along. But Schaeffer, it seems, is too busy to complete the WandaVision trilogy. Could you be working on a Scarlet Witch movie? Those new Marvel release dates of 2027 and 2028 look very tempting and would be a nice way to cap off your time at Marvel Studios.
Hopefully, though, there will be a bigger seat at the table for the Agatha All Along creator. Schaeffer running the government over the more witchy side of the MCU could certainly work, but maybe, just maybe, he should be handed the keys to Marvel's television kingdom. After all, it's the witching season.
