WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers – Official Trailer | Xbox Partner Preview October 2024 – YouTube
Look
Where game developers like Black Myth: Wukong and Zero Ghost Blade They've come out and said they're not making a Soulslike, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a loud and proud “Soulslike action RPG” set in a horror fiction version of the late Ming Dynasty. I got this vibe from its reveal earlier this year, and the new trailer fresh out of today's Xbox Partner Showcase seals the deal with frenetic bosses and saves galore that are setting my Sekiro alarm bells ringing.
Fortunately, there's a lot more gameplay this time around. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a third-person action game that promises a distinctly darker take on Chinese history and mythology that is (rather excitingly) becoming more prominent these days. Our heroine, the pirate Wuchang, is a one-woman army wielding double swords, glaives, straight swords, magic clubs, magic flames, a harpoon, a flamethrower, a Sephiroth-style blood wing, and a shotgun lightning bow. Let us also not forget the feathered arm, evidently a sign of Wuchang's mixed lineage.
The wide variety of weapons and attacks reminds me a little of Nioh, and the Soulslike DNA shines brightest in the final third of the trailer, a portion of which is dedicated to a single boss fight with an avian female warrior boss. Throughout the trailer, enemies and bosses stagger from strong attacks and retreat when Wuchang parries them, although there's also a clear focus on dodging. In my 10 years of games journalism, I've played a lot of games like this and seen a lot of their trailers, and so far I have a good feeling about this one. It all comes down to feeling in the end, but Wuchang at least aspect Fast and responsive in combat.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. We hope there will be a demo or trial opportunity before then. He The Steam page is active. Now if you want to see more.
It's no Lies of P, but the most popular Soulslike at Steam Next Fest is just the anime action RPG I hoped it would be, and it's coming to PS5 too..
