Ryan Reynolds has revealed the plan to prevent major Deadpool and Wolverine spoilers from leaking on set.
“I was so fucking scared of people seeing [Wesley Snipes, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Garner, and Dafne Keen]. “It really kept me up at night,” Reynolds said in the Deadpool and Wolverine director's commentary on the big Ant Man Arena fight scene in which Blade, Gambit, Elektra, and X-23/Laura take on the henchmen. by Cassandra Nova.
But instead of filming fake scenes or producing different scripts to throw people off, the production team had a much simpler method of preventing aerial photographs from being taken.
“We managed to block off the area enough and we had a plan in place if someone saw a drone, because they often got footage via drone. If someone saw a drone, we would shout it out and basically everyone would run for cover. We never had to implement that small tactic, but I lived in fear that this would come to light.
Added director Shawn Levy: “We took our chances with the paparazzi and the spoilers because if this was all on a soundstage, I promise you it wouldn't feel as raw or as real.”
Fortunately, everything worked out in the end. Barring a curious marketing ploy that revealed the arrival of X-23 before release, Deadpool and Wolverine's biggest cameos were kept under wraps until the Marvel movie hit theaters.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and limited edition Steelbook.
