20 years later, Konami confirms fans' suspicions that Metal Gear Solid 3's Eva was voiced by The Little Mermaid

Well, here's another mystery to cross off the “unsolved” list; 20 years after the release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Konami has finally confirmed fans' suspicions that Russian spy Eva was played by the same actor who played Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermaid.

The identity of Eva's voice performer has long baffled Metal Gear Solid 3 fans, given that the person listed in the game's credits, one Suzetta Miñet, did not appear to be a real person at all. And while the vocal similarities had led some in the community to believe that Miñet was actually a pseudonym for Ariel's voice actress, Jodi Benson (although she was far from the only suspect), it had never been officially confirmed. . until now.

“So she asked me, 'What was your dog's name when you were a kid?'” Benson continued, “and I said, 'Suzette Monet.' So she said, 'You know what? Let's go with that.' How about Suzetta? 'How?' “Instead of Monet, the artist, will we do Miñet?”, and I said: “It seems like a deal!”

However, Benson, whose other roles include Barbie in the Toy Story series and Thumbelina, admits that some fans managed to discover her, even under the pseudonym. “Seven years ago, at various conventions, when we were meeting and greeting wonderful fans,” he continued, “someone put one of these wonderful games on my table and I said, 'Why do you bring that?', and he said, 'Why are you bringing that?' Why do you bring that?' , 'Because you're in this.' And I said, 'You know? Do you know my deep dark secret? And he said, 'Yes! I know,' and I said, 'Shh, keep it quiet!'”

Confirmation of Benson's role in Snake Eater comes as Konami continues its efforts to revitalize the Metal Gear Solid series following creator Hideo Kojima's acrimonious departure from the publisher in 2015. Last year saw the release of the less-than-stellar Metal Gear Solid Konami Master Collection. : Volume 1, with Volume 2 still to come. First, however, it will release its Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which still has no release date despite its 2024 release window.
