Mumbai . Mohini Dey, the guitarist in Oscar and Grammywinning musician AR Rahman's band, has rubbished linkup rumors as baseless. She said the musician is a “father figure” to her.
Mohini posted a short clip on Instagram, in which she told that she is the same age as Rahman's daughter.
Mohini also wrote a long note in which she criticized “misinformation and baseless assumptions” against her and Rahman.
In the video, Mohini is heard saying, “He is a father figure and role model in my life. I am really lucky and grateful that one of the people who played an important role in my upbringing is AR. By AR, I mean AR Rahman.” I respect him a lot. He is just like my father.”
“He is a little younger than my father. I think his daughter is exactly my age. We have a lot of respect and love for each other.”
He said that he worked with him as a bassist in his band for eight and a half years.
“Five years ago I moved to America and associated myself with other American pop artists. I also have my own band and my own music and I tour with it.”
Mohini urged everyone to respect her privacy.
He said, “Well long story short. Please respect our privacy. This is a personal matter and it is painful.”
Mohini wrote in the caption, “The misinformation and baseless allegations against me and AR Rahman are completely unbelievable.”
“I am grateful for those 8.5 years as a child, working with AR Rahman in his films and tours. It is disappointing to see that people have no respect or sympathy for such emotional matters.”
“It saddens me to see the state of mind of people. AR Rahman is a legend and he is like a father to me.”
He further added, “I have many role models and father figures in my life who have played an important role in my career and upbringing. To name a few, my father who taught me everything about music (whom I lost a year ago) And then Ranjit Barot, who introduced me to the industry, and AR Rahman, who gave me the freedom to shine in his shows and musical arrangements. I cherish these memories forever. I will keep it.”
He further said, “People in the media don't understand what effect it has on people's minds and lives. Be sensitive. I don't owe anyone any explanation. Please stop spreading falsehoods. Respect our privacy.”
