The centenary of Raj Kapoor, one of India's biggest cinematic powers, will be celebrated on 14 December 2024. He was born in Peshawar (presentday Pakistan), and was the eldest son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor has acted in and produced many films, for which he has received several awards, including three National Film Awards.

His films 'Awara' and 'Boot Polish' competed for awards at the 1951 and 1955 Cannes Film Festival respectively. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 1971 for his contribution to the arts. He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country's highest honor in cinema, in 1988.
